  1. Hurricane Katrina K-W-L Chart (10-15 min)
    1. Teacher will display example of chart on Elmo.
    2. Students will fill in the "K", what I know, and the "W", what I want to know, about Hurricane Katrina. They can add anything they think they know or remember about the hurricane, and any questions in they have.
    3. Ask for volunteers to share their responses.
  2. Read "Hope" LB p. 680 (10-15 min)
    1. Read the narrative aloud with students. Teacher can read, or ask for volunteers.
    2. After reading, go back to the K-W-L and have students add anything they learned to the "L" column.
  3. "Hope" Margin Question and Critical Thinking Questions p. 680-681 (25-30 min)
    1. Answer the Literary Analysis, Imagery Question p. 680 using a complete sentence. Students may work with others seated around them to complete questions, but must stay in their seats.
    2. Answer the Critical Thinking Questions #1-4 and the Big Question a and b using complete sentences.
    3. Teacher will review the questions, asking for volunteers or calling on students to share answers.
  4. Read "The Day of the Storm" LB p. 682-684 (15-20 min)
    1. Read the narrative aloud with students. Teacher can read, or ask for volunteers.
